Does Invisalign Work?

We understand that your confidence can be affected by your teeth. A great smile can make all the difference when you’re socialising, and at Dentist Old Market we are committed to helping you find your confidence.

Invisalign is a tooth straightening treatment that uses clear aligners to form dental braces to fit over your natural teeth. These are perfect for anyone that wants to straighten their teeth, yet feel self conscious about traditional braces.

Why should you choose Invisalign over braces?

Invisalign is a subtle alternative to braces that straighten your teeth. Whilst braces are effective in straightening your teeth, the metal tracks are often uncomfortable to get used to, whilst also trapping food that can be fiddly and frustrating to remove. Invisalign offers an “invisible” alternative that slowly straightens your teeth over a period of time.

Braces have been straightening teeth for a long time, and they work, so why should you consider Invisalign instead?

Invisalign orthodontics offers a teeth straightening experience that offers more comfort than braces, whilst also being removable so that you can eat, drink, brush and floss without issue. They allow you to witness the change in your teeth as the time progresses, instead of having to wait until they’re removed, as well as being virtually invisible so you can still be happy with your smile while they’re in.

Invisalign works to improve your smile, and the removable aligners allow you to opt-in for other treatments, such as teeth whitening, to help improve your smile whilst still undergoing Invisalign treatment. The flexibility of Invisalign treatment is perfect for those who want multiple treatments.

Who can have Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign is suited for a wide range of patients. Whilst it is mostly aimed towards adults who may not want traditional braces and are opting for something slightly more discreet, there is Invisalign for teens and children.

Teens and children may be recommended Invisalign over braces for minor or moderate treatment.

Having removable braces also means that your teen won’t have to miss out on anything they love, whether it be a type of food or their favourite sport. The shorter appointments mean that missing out on school doesn’t need to be a worry, and the lack of broken wires means fewer emergency trips! Invisalign Teen also comes with a subtle blue dot that will let you know if they have been worn for long enough.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign works by taking precise 3D scans of your teeth, before using an element scanner to help create a treatment plan that you are happy with. These will help to create clear plastic aligners that are fitted to work with your evolving bite and are completely safe for prolonged periods of time.

Once you’re happy with your plan you will be provided with your first set of Invisalign aligners to begin wearing daily. Following this you will need regular checkups with your Invisalign dentist to check your progress, and whether you will need to update to your next set of aligners. The aligners are easy for everyday use, so you can carry on with your usual routine, just remember to remove them for eating or for brushing your teeth (which you will need to do after every meal before reinserting your aligners).

Your aligners could take up to six months to get you to your straightening goal, but will differ from person to person, depending on how minor or complex your teeth straightening journey might be, and your dentist will give you a time frame during consultation.

Does Invisalign work?

In short, the answer is yes, Invisalign does work to straighten your teeth and leave you with a perfect smile.

Many people, especially adults, that are looking for teeth straightening treatments tend to want to avoid traditional braces due to the appearance and feel of braces. Invisalign is perfect for those wanting to avoid this, as their near invisibility makes them unnoticeable to those around you.

The rate of success for Invisalign treatments is 96%, which shows that the treatment can be just as effective as traditional braces in correcting dental issues, as long as patients follow the plan.

Invisalign works for a large number of dental issues that can be helped with a straightening treatment. However, the effectiveness of Invisalign depends heavily on the patient. Whilst your Invisalign dental specialist provides the treatment, remembering to follow the treatment plan relies entirely on you.

If a patient remembers to wear their Invisalign whenever they are not eating, drinking or brushing their teeth, as well as switching to a new set when advised, then the Invisalign treatment is an effective teeth straightening treatment that works as an alternative to braces. However, if a patient constantly forgets to wear the Invisalign then the treatment will likely take longer than expected which may discourage the patient and result in a less effective treatment. The same can be said if a patient does not change their set when advised to.

Does Invisalign treatment last a lifetime?

Invisalign is designed to offer the same results as traditional braces, including providing results that should last a lifetime.

Once the initial treatment period ends your newly straightened teeth should remain that way forever. However, in some cases, a retainer may be recommended to help keep your teeth from shifting out of place and protecting your straight smile.

To ensure your Invisalign investment lasts it is best to continue to have regular checkups with your dentist, as well as continuing your dental regimen to protect your teeth to help keep your confident smile.
