Are Clear Aligners Right For Me?

Clear Retainers

Clear Aligners such as Invisalign are transparent braces that help to straighten your teeth without being noticeable to those around you, allowing you to smile with confidence whilst receiving treatment.

Braces are something we associate with teenagers, but people of all ages benefit from teeth straightening processes. Not only are straight teeth aesthetically pleasing, but they can also help with your bite, as well as helping to prevent tooth decay and cavities.

But choosing to straighten your teeth is still a big decision, and the choice between track braces or clear aligners can feel a bit confusing. So how do you know if clear aligners are right for you?

What Are Clear Aligners?

Clear Aligners, such as Invisalign, are clear plastic trays that are fitted to your teeth. The transparent mould slowly moves your teeth into a straight and aligned position, helping you to get your desired straightness.

The discrete design of clear aligners makes them almost unnoticeable, whilst the trays are removable to make eating, drinking, brushing and flossing a breeze.

Clear Aligners For Aesthetic Purposes

When you are younger it seems like everyone has had track braces, so it doesn’t seem as worrying that you will stand out. However, as an adult fewer of your peers will have braces, and you may worry about how track braces will look.

Clear aligners take away the worry that track braces may cause, and allow you to continue to smile with confidence whilst wearing them.

How Long Does Clear Alignment Treatment Take

The length of your treatment will depend on the individual. If you have severe misalignment then treatment will be longer than if you only have a few crooked teeth.

Clear aligners can help to correct smaller imperfections faster than other straightening treatments and can take as little as six months to get your smile to the desired shape.

Aligner treatment time will also depend on how well you follow the treatment plan.

Wearing Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are completely removable, allowing you to eat and drink whatever you want without the restrictions of track braces, as well as making brushing and flossing easier. However, if you are likely to forget to put your aligners in then the treatment will be less effective and will take longer than your initial plan will have outlined.

With track braces, you don’t need to worry about taking your braces off and remembering to put them back on like you would with clear aligners.

If you think you can stick to the treatment plan your dentist or orthodontist lays out, then clear aligners may be the right choice for you. Invisalign and other clear aligners need to be worn for approximately 20-22 hours a day, including whilst you sleep.
